Eating right before going to Bad is overall seen as a bad thing in mainstream media. But it is so hard to fight those cravings! However, certain foods you can eat before bed are good for you and will fight the cravings. But first, let us understand what foods to avoid before bed.

  1. Pizza: While you might think how bad can one slice of pizza be? It is one of the worst foods to consume before bed. They have a lot of calories and can even cause heartburn if they are too greasy.
  2. Sugary cereal or ice cream: Another common form of midnight snack is ice cream and cereals. These might temporarily satisfy your cravings but are harmful to your health. Avoid eating sugar before bed. Instead, opt for other options mentioned below which are sweet as well.
  3. Chips and Crackers: One of the most common and convenient snacks before bed is chips. Chips have both fat and salt which is not good for you. These chips can also very easily turn into binge food. Cracks on the other hand are also high-calorie and should not be consumed right before bed.

You might be wondering if all the popular options are bad, what can be eaten? There are a lot of healthier options that might even help in improving your sleep.

  1. Tart cherries: These cherries help in better sleep and are not harmful to your health according to research. You can get frozen cherries and eat them with yogurt. You can also drink tart cherry juice if you are not feeling too hungry,
  2. Nuts: One of the best options for food when eating before bed is Nuts. Take a bowl of a mix of unsalted and unflavored nuts. These will also work your jaw. Peanuts are a good source of tryptophan which helps in sleeping.
  3. A low-sugar granola bar: A granola bar is healthy, tasty and will also fulfill your cravings without harming your health. Choose a bar with some protein and not too much sugar. Do not opt for a high-protein granola bar either.
  4. Oatmeal: While it is a popular form of breakfast, it can also be a snack you eat before sleeping. It is warm and soothing. Oatmeal has melatonin which can help you sleep. It is also quite filling.
  5. Greek yogurt: Yogurt is one of the best foods you can have right before sleeping. It is creamy but also packed with nutrients. This will satisfy your taste buds and your gut. It also promotes sleep because it contains Melatonin.
