Squats

Squats is an exercise that does wonders to tone your legs. It works your quadriceps, hamstrings, calves and glutes—the exercise tones not just your legs but also your butt, hips, and abs. Squats are a great exercise when you can’t perform other activities due to back problems. 

How to do it: 

  • Stand straight, keeping your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Bend your knees as if you are about to sit. Inhale as you do this.
  • Go down as much as you can without letting the knee surpass your feet
  • Now, push up back to the original position- exhale as you do so.

Leg Extensions and Curls

Technically two different exercises, leg extension and leg curls, are usually performed as part of the set. While extensions focus on the quadriceps, curls focus on the hamstrings. Together, they help tone your calves, shins, and thighs. 

How to do it: 

Leg Extension

  • Sit straight on the lever machine
  • Place your legs behind/below the bars and lift them with your feet as you exhale
  • Hold the position when your feet is parallel to the ground
  • Bring down the feel back to the original position as you inhale

Leg Curl

  • Lay down on the curl machine face down
  • Place the lower calves under the pad
  • Exhale as your curl the leg to create a bend in the knee
  • Inhale as you bring the leg down to the original position

Leg Press

The leg press is an exercise that focuses on the quadriceps mainly. However, it also works the hamstrings, glutes, and calves. Thus, it is a great exercise to tone your legs. 

How to do it:

  • Sit in the leg press machine, placing your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform in front of you.
  • As you exhale, hold the sidebars and push through your heels to move the platform.
  • From the extended position, bring your leg back into the original position slowly, as you inhale.
