In most gyms, sports clubs and parks around your local community, runners and athletes gather after training to do their stretching exercises. According to most coaches and trainers, stretching is necessary to avoid injuries, so should you actually do your stretching exercises after training or not?
Do You Actually Avoid Injuries?
Many runners perform stretching exercises to avoid injury, but according to experts and professors of physiotherapy, there is no scientific basis for you to throw yourself on the ground after running for a another marathon of stretching exercises like a yoga fanatic on instagram.
There are no studies yet that confirm that the risk of injury is reduced by doing stretching exercises after your running sessions. If you run longer distances, there is no significant reason for stretching unless you think it’s nice to do and have the feeling of you looking sophisticated runner to impress people around you.
Stretching Exercises Before Running
If you run shorter distances or are getting ready for interval running sessions, stretching exercises may have a positive effect if done before you run. However, according to researchers, there is no scientific reason for it.
